The apartment had formerly been furnished by an international design team as a prototype for a future development but it was not appealing to tenants or buyers and I felt it just was not good enough and set about transforming it into something much more stylish and comfortable.
All too often I see interiors which seem to be designed to shock and surprise just by being different but with little or no consideration for the comfort of the occupier. Whether my client is 20 years old or 80, I aim to design an interior which is comfortable and pleasurable to live in. I am fed up of seeing photogenic interiors which have cost a fortune but do not even have a comfortable seat.
I removed a collection of wooden stools and non matching uncomfortable chairs from the apartment along with a couple of tripod lamps which were a safety hazard; a large mirror propped precariously against a wall has been fixed securely; the small settee which had its back to the spectacular view has been removed and the plasma wiring swapped around to allow a much better furniture arrangement which now takes full advantage of the one bedroomed penthouse's layout. Once the position of the light above the dining table had also been moved, some new furnishings were brought in and the apartment accessorised and within a day of it being completed , the apartment immediately let to a young International business man.
